…the
day started out, well, late…the good news of this is that I slept great! The not
so good news is that I over slept….by a lot…I had set my alarms for 8:30 am to
slowly wake up, finish my blog post for yesterday, and spend some time with my
host mom and Giacomo before meeting with my friends to grab a cappuccino and
then meet up with the rest of our group at 11….needless to say that didn’t happen….my
alarm went off on time but instead of hitting snooze, I turned it off
completely and woke up at 10:57 to the sound of a siren J…I immediately sent a
text off to my friend and hurriedly got ready in about 20 minutes…but as my mom
would tell me it was probably better to learn that lesson now so that I will
now be so paranoid about waking up on-time that it wont happen again haha J
…after
all of that morning, (and having to wake up everyone and being late, so I wasn’t
this only one) we took the metro to Porta Nuova which is the city center
basically, grabbed a cappuccino
and met with the rest of the group for our bus
tour of the cityJ
I am falling love the more I see and do…
I found out that my apartment is super
close to all of the Olympic park…I can actually see the rink where they held
short track speed skating and figure skating and on the other side of the metro
and train tracks is the stadium that held the opening ceremonies, the torch,
and the village it was so so cool!
I cant wait to show that to my
parents!...among other things we got to see, we took our huge coach bus up this
winding tiny road (I say tiny because there were a couple turns that the driver
literally sat and beeped his horn for like 5 minutes before he would take it
and the turn made me sick to think of trying to do it…it was so intense that on
the worst one you could see a little Italian woman in a window of one of the
houses watching us and just shaking her head as we attempted it!) to the top of
a mountain (literally 435m above the city) to a church called Basilica de
Superga and, oh my goodness you could see EVERYTHING!!! The city, the alps,
everything and it all was absolutely gorgeous….that may have been the exact
moment that I fell in love with Turin…
…and oh my goodness it was so so so fantastic! There is so much to do and see in this city that I don’t know if I will be able to do it all!
…after
the tour we were kind of set free in Piazza Vittoro and were off to find some
food…as a big group settled on focaccia and then after a bit, more gelati! (I do
love that stuff, and my friend, Kris and I have decided there is no such idea
as eating gelato too many times in one day, after all we walk at least 5, maybe
10 miles a day here) then we all went home for a couple hours planning to meet
up together later J
…after
spending time with Giacomo watching The Ribelle (again haha), skyping mom, dad
and angie, and blogging I headed out for dinner with the apartment of girls
that lives just around the corner from my home (apparently they count me as the
6th roommate)…we went downtown and found this beautiful little pizza
shop where I finally had capresi (which is just mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil
that I could easily make myself, even back in the states, but there is just something
about having it here that makes it 100x better)…after dinner we took the metro
back to our stop and went out with some more friends for the rest of the night….ended
getting about 20 of us USAC kids together tonight and it was so much fun J
…came
home and got to see my host dad (I will most likely only see him at night, as
he works really long hours, so it is nice to see him…they both seem really
genuinely happy to have me but something about Simone that just makes him seem
like he is REALLY excited to have me living here)…and since they spend almost
every weekend during January and February “in the mountains” (sounds like they
have a cabin up there, but he means in the Alps, specifically the mountain that
was the main hill for the Olympics ski competitions!) that I am free to come
with them whenever I want! Even if I don’t
want to ski, just to come up….i cant even imagine…getting to ski in the Italian
alps…what did I do to be so blessed??
…I
was talking with some of my friends and it seems that the general consensus is
that we cant even believe that we are here and get to stay…I wake up in the
morning and have to remind myself that I am still in Italy and that I live here…it
is truly the most incredible experience and I am so blessed to get to do this….I
absolutely love my life and living here!!...well buona notte tutti, a domain (good
night everyone, until tomorrow!) for this tired girl
