Yesterday
was a day of lots of information...it started early for me about 6am I was
awake and on the metro heading over to the main train station at Porta Nuova to
get my actual card for my monthly metro pass….it was my first time working the
metro by myself (I know win!) however, once I got to Porta Nuova the challenge
really began….first of all I had to find the GTT office…thank goodness I knew
how to ask for directions from someone in the news shop…once I finally found it
I walked in, sat down and asked if the lady spoke English to which the
bilingual response was, No. L so through broken Italian, a lot of im sorrys, and
sign language, a half hour later I finally walked away with my metro card….i
guess when no one speaks your language in a city that isn’t very touristy, you
find you know more words than you think you do J
After
coming back home, and playing with Giacomo (who was home sick from school with
a febbre, fever) I headed off for
more information….it was our first day at the school and time for hours of more
orientation….we covered everything from classes and choosing courses, we moved
on to the really fun stuff, travels….trains, and planes…group trips and more….needless
to say that’s really when we all perked up J I cant wait to get
traveling, hopefully next weekend ill be off to Geneva or Brussels with a
girlfriend (was supposed to be Paris but the tickets were sky high because of
the short notice)….
J it now looks totally
beautiful! A few hours later Eliana’s sister, Valentina (I am in love with that
name!!) came over for dinner and Paula and Ricardo left…Valentina speaks pretty
good English so it was nice to be able to talk to her J and boy was dinner
delicious!!! Eliana made a type of pasta that is only found in Tuscany…J
she also made a pot roast and potatoes….yum yum yum J it was a wonderful day
with my new Italian family (with that said, I just want to publically thank
Google Translate for the 52 thousand times a day that I need it haha)….yesterday
was a super busy but great great day!!
testarolie….honestly
its cooked like pasta but pretty much the consistency of like a crepe…totally
weird texture, but when mixed with pesto and parmesan its super good …finally after hours at the school it was back home to meet Eliana’s mom, Giacomo’s Nonna, Paula and let me tell you she is the perfect Italian Grandmother and exactly what I pictured….we spoke some VERY VERY broken conversations of a mix of English and Italian but it was so much fun…im finding that I have learned so much in just the last few days here….her husband Ricardo was putting together my bed and wardrobe from IKEA for my room
PS this is my little brother Giacomo...he doesnt like pictures so I took this while we were watching Brave (for the 27th time) when he was home sick from school :) isnt he the cutest?? |
